After 8 years together, The Sleeping are taking a break. A statement from the band can be seen below.
We (The Sleeping) are announcing our “Indefinite Hiatus.” We all remain and will remain great friends but the time has come in our lives to explore other aspects as individuals. Chris (Keyboardist) has moved to Colorado. Joe (Drummer) has moved to California while him and Paul (Guitarist) still run their well respected merch company from Paul’s new house on Long Island. Salvatore (Bassist) is the proud owner of an amazing bar and a brand new Vegan/Vegetarian eatery in Seaford, NY. I (Douglas) tend bar at Sal’s place and I have just recently joined a new band that has become my full-time project.
We would like to extend a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who worked beside us and stood by us throughout all of the years. You can head over to http://itsastickupmerch.storenvy.com/ to order the remainder of The Sleeping’s merchandise.
We would also like to share the fact that we’ve been a band for about ten years and we have struggled immensely to get to where we have gotten. We accomplished many amazing things and we did it together as a family. We are proud of the mark that The Sleeping has left and we will never forget the amazing times we have had.
Well, that’s it for now. If you have ever given us a place to sleep or a party to hang at, we thank you. We would also like to thank all of our families as well as all of the bands, friends, fans and newfound family we have met along the way. We owe so much to all of you.
This may not be the end forever… but it’s the end for now.

Today’s sad news is that Thursday will be going on indefinite hiatus. The band has definitely left a huge impact on the alternative music scene, and unfortunately the upcoming tour dates they have scheduled will be their last. Here’s a message from the band:
Yup. Yesterday thrice, today Thursday. Crazy coincidence for two bands that have led such parallel and intersecting lives. We would’ve spaced our announcement out and given the dust a chance to settle but we are about to play a bunch of shows and we didn’t want anyone to miss the chance to see us one more time, so here it goes…
If you’re reading this long version of our statement, you’ve probably had some interaction with Thursday. We’ve been a band for thirteen years. We’ve played an uncountable number of shows, ranging from living rooms to stadiums. We’ve talked to every Zine, blog, Daily, Weekly, Monthly periodical… We’ve talked to every College, Commercial and Public Radio Station and sometimes we just hung out on the street talking to strangers. Maybe we met you. Maybe we worked together somewhere. Maybe you saw us or heard us with friends. Whatever the case may be, we owe you thanks. You’ve allowed us to be a band for thirteen years, to travel the world, to make records, to meet all of the people we’ve grown to love. And to open for our idols, work with our heroes, employ our friends (the best crew around) and see our dreams made real. This year, Thursday has had so much to celebrate: our new record, No Devolución, came out ten years, to the week, after the record that was to become our touchstone: Full Collapse. To have one record still being celebrated a decade after it’s release and another to be met with such critical acclaim was really more than we ever could’ve imagined. We just wanted to play basement shows in New Brunswick. It’s funny… That sounds like a well-worn line now but it’s absolutely the truth. Well, if you’ve been touched by our music or our dedication or our embarrassingly out-of-fashion sincerity, then this is for you, friend: thank you for letting us make No Devolución. We hope you’ve heard it. We say “beg, borrow or steal… music is an idea… ideas are free” but we encourage you to support our fantastically sweet and hardworking label, Epitaph, by buying it if you can afford to. Despite the fantastic year that the band has enjoyed, creatively, things haven’t been as easy for us on a personal level. Without diving into detail, it’s fair to say that this year has been an endless series of personal difficulties. We haven’t had any falling out and are all still close. I’m sure that we will continue to create, in some capacity, together. We’ve talked about turning Thursday into something else: a non-profit, a band that only records sporadically, a collection of other projects… Underneath it all, the personal circumstances involved make it impossible to continue Thursday in the spirit that has made it special. So, we stop. For now, at least. We hope to see many of you at these last shows. They’ll be a lot of fun. We promise.

After being together for 13 years, releasing 8 albums, and going on countless tours, Thrice has decided it’s time to take a break. A message from front-man Dustin Kensrue can be read below.
Thrice is not breaking up. If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could.
However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the Spring will be the last one for the foreseeable future.
Playing music for the past 13 years with Riley, Ed, and Teppei has been such a gift. We have been able to see the world, share music with thousands and thousands of people, and make records with a variety of talented and inspiring people. The four of us have been through many highs and lows and overcome them together. I value their friendship, and it has been a great priviledge to play alongside them for so long. They are truly an amazingly gifted group of people, and the ways we’ve grown together as people and musicians has been a joy to experience.
Along the way we have adapted to many changing situations, especially the growing families of both Teppei and myself, but it has been harder and harder for me with each step. I have three little girls now under the age of 5, and it is a huge strain on my family and I when I’m away for several weeks at a time. The way we’ve been doing things for a while is simply not sustainable for me anymore.
I don’t know what the future looks like for Thrice, or for any of us individually. I do know that I would love to make more music in the future with them, as well as play some shows or short tours, but for the time being, I need to step out of the role of full time touring/recording musician, and will do so after this tour. I will continue to make music in various capacities I’m sure, and continue in my work as a Worship Director at Mars Hill Church in Orange County.
I know this will be very disappointing news to many people, and for that I am truly sorry. The amount of support and love we’ve been given in our career is staggering and overwhelming. I know I’m biased, but I think we have the best fans in the world.
This upcoming tour should be a lot of fun. We are planning for it to be somewhat of a celebration of the last 13 years and I’m sure we’ll be breaking out a bunch of songs that have been buried in the archives. I hope to see you out there to celebrate with us.
I never expected to be able to do any of this, let alone do it for 13 years, with such amazing bandmates, such gifted and hard working crew and management, and such incredible and loyal fans.
Thank you all.

Valencia has decided to call it a day, for now. The band will play its last show December 28th in Philadelphia and a full statement from the band can be seen below.
Valencia originally came together back in 2003. Most of us were still just in high school, but we all had gotten to know each other through the tightly knit music community we grew up in around Philadelphia. We started this band because of a mutual need to create something heartfelt and to give everyone a message we needed to share. We all felt like music would be the most significant part of our lives, but never in our wildest dreams could we have predicted the things we’d get to do, or more importantly, the people we would meet because of this band and the songs we wrote and shared with the world.
We started touring full time in late 2004, thanks to everyone at I Surrender Records putting faith in our band and releasing our first record. Ever since then, we’ve given everything we had to our music. We’ve been touring nonstop since then, playing shows in 46 states and five different countries over seven years, all of them places we were brought to thanks to people that believed in what we had to say.
This band started when we were teenagers, and now, as we enter our mid-to-late twenties, we’ve decided that it’s time for us to scale back our time on the road and explore the other elements of life that are not as easily accessible while touring full time. We aren’t considering this our band breaking up, because if that was the case, this situation would feel very final, and it doesn’t feel that way to us. It remains natural for us to write music together and there is always a possibility that we will release new music as Valencia sometime in the future. In the meantime, new music will be written and released by each of us and when that happens, we will let you know.
In honor of starting this next chapter, please join us on December 28th, 2011 for one last show in our hometown of Philadelphia, at the Electric Factory. We hope you’ll be there with us to share one of the most personal, memorable, and important nights of our lives. Thank you all for everything - the letters, the tattoos, the years of listening, for so many countless, priceless sentiments - there’s no way we could ever fully express our gratitude for everything you’ve done for us. We’ve been given the chance to go down a path not many are able to take, and because you’ve had our backs through the story that is our band, we’re able to continue that journey through whatever comes next for us.
From the bottom of our hearts,
Shane, George, Brendan, Dan, Trevor, JD, and Max
